They spend the week together in complete bliss. They knew time was running out for them to be alone together and that soon there will be two demanding babies taking up all their waking and not so waking moments.
They both knew they had something important to talk about, but they both avoided it, hoping they could live in the dream world they have woven these last two weeks. The fact that Jon hadn’t admit that he believed her about the Richie affair, sometimes got to her, but he treated her well and even if Richie was around, he was acting at ease. Sometimes she felt like talking about it, but she didn’t want to destroy what they had built at these last weeks, so she buried it deep inside her. Maybe time would tell.
Dot and the kids were regular visitors and she always looked forward to it. It was really starting to get very cold and Cheyenne felt like a caged animal sometimes, not been able to take her daily walks. Her body was heavy and her movements slow, but she loved to walk to the river, just standing there staring over the water. Jon was like a guardian angel. He clucked around her, watching her closely for any signs of discomfort, jumping up when she moved towards something, volunteering to do it for her. She was napping more and her pains sometimes got so bad that Jon was ready to take her to hospital. The doctor was getting agitated and decided that if the babies show any signs of distress that they would do an emergency c-section. Cheyenne sometimes felt like begging the doctor to do it, she was tired, sore and very irritated with her body, but she knew the longer they stay in the better for the babies.
It was a cold day when Dot and the two little boys came visiting. The teenagers were out with their friends. Jakie had a ball with the new pup and played outside despite his mother’s request to stay inside. Romeo was getting bored and decided to go see what his brother was up to.
Lunch was almost ready. They all sat in the cosy sitting room, letting the fire soak into their bodies. Cheyenne and Dot went to the baby room after a while, Dot bought numerous presents for the babies and they went upstairs to put the new plush bears Dot had thought was too cute to resist, with the other bears in the room.
Cheyenne had this uncontrollable craving for fudge and she excused herself, decided to sneak to the kitchen and help herself with a few. She knew exactly where Violet left it and decided to bring some for the little boys as well, nobody needed to know that they had a treat before lunch.
She went out the front door, decided to share her snack with them outside.
“Jakie, Romeo! I have a nice treat for you two!”
She walked out onto the grass, pulling her sweater closer to her body as a cold wind sliced through her. She suddenly had an eerie feeling when the two boys didn’t answer her , worry turned into panic when neither of the boys answered her. Chiquita was no where to be found.
“Boys! Where are you?! Chiquita!” Cheyenne decided to turn to the river, a nauseous feeling welling up in her.
Her walk turned into a fast paced stride. Just then she caught a little boy’s panicky voice.
“Romeo!”
“Oh God the swimmingpool!”
She felt rather than heard the scream ripping from her.
“ROMEOOOO!”
She ignored the sudden stitch in her side, rushing towards the pool.
