Richie was in the shower when his phone rang. Heather heard it and decided to pick it up.
‘Hello?”
“Oh, I’m sorry I think I called the wrong number.”
Heather recognised her voice and a small grin formed on her face.
“Are you looking for Richie?”
Stacey felt her hair stood on end.
It’s Heather on his phone!
“Actually I am, could I speak to him please?”
“He is in the shower at the moment. Listen honey, maybe Richie felt sorry for you but let me make it easy on him and you. We are going to give our marriage a go again. I’m sorry he didn’t discuss it with you, but I feel I have to tell you and in the process save you from any unnecessary embarrassment.”
Stacey felt her heart been ripped from her chest. This couldn’t be true!
She disconnected the call, sitting on the bed just staring into space.
Was I just a plaything to him? Why couldn’t he just tell me?
Tears spilled down her face, her life seemed empty now. A pair of dark eyes came into view, smiling at her.
“FUCK YOU RICHIE SAMBORA, FUCK YOU!”
She grabbed her pillow and cried herself to sleep.
Richie came out of the shower, his hangover ripping a hole through his head.
He was so sure he heard his phone rang. He picked it up.
No missed calls. He shrugged, turned around and got dressed.
Heather was in the kitchen, popping two tablets in her mouth as he walked in.
“Have some for me too?”
She handed him the tablets and he washed it down with a glass of water.
“Richie we need to talk.”
“Uum listen Heather. I’m sorry about last night. I was drunk and I didn’t think straight.”
“I want you back. I made a mistake and I want us to try again.”
Richie’s legs gave in and he sagged into the nearest chair.
“Heather, if you told me that a few months ago I would have jumped at the opportunity. You have to understand that this thing with Stacey is not just a fling. This is serious, I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to ask her to marry me. I’m sorry Heather it’s just too late.”
“Marry her? Are you fucking crazy? You don’t even know her long enough!”
‘That has nothing to do with you now does it?”
She had a calculating look in her eyes that Richie didn’t quite understand.
“It will never work, you’ll see.”
Richie felt bad for rejecting her like that but on the other hand he felt ready to stare the world in the face again, with Stacey at his side he could do anything! He dialled her number but found her voicemail. He frowned slightly but left her a message anyway.
