Cheyenne called Stacey and asked her out for lunch later that day.
She got dressed and made sure the cheque was in her bag and headed to town. She received the strangest looks from the bank teller when she handed her the cheque. She
made a list of all the debt and drew only that amount. The amount was big enough to make Cheyenne feel dizzy, but at least the money could buy her a debt free life.
She paid all the debt and with every payment she felt happier and ready to take on the world. When the clock told her it was ready to meet Stacey at the restaurant, she felt nervous. She didn’t know how her friend would feel about her moving to Jersey.
She was drinking her coffee when Stacey walked in.
‘Heya, gal. I’m having a real shitty day at work! You are so damn lucky to be on vacation!”
Stacey new her friend very well, and picked up on her nervousness the moment she stop talking.
“Ok, Chey spit it out. What’s wrong? Mark giving you a hard time or is Jon still haunting your dreams?”
“Mark apologised for what happened, took his stuff and left. He just wanted to know when he would get his money. I paid all the debt so I’ll give him a call and write him a cheque I don’t want any of it.”
“Give him all the money? Fuck him, he treated you like shit and he slept around behind your back. If I were you I wouldn’t give him a bloody cent! “
“I’m just glad to be rid of him, so it doesn’t really bother me much! But there’s another thing I want to talk to you about. The band offered me a job and I think I’m gonna take it.”
Cheyenne held her breath and waited for a response from Stacey.
“Are you serious? Chey, how much heartache do you want to go through? Does it mean you are going to move to Jersey? Shit, what am I going to do?”
Cheyenne saw the tears in her friend’s eyes, a huge lump formed in her throat.
“We will still see each other, and don’t you worry about me. My feet are planted firmly on the ground. I don’t have any illusions about Jon. I found a good friend in Richie and I’m sure that’s all I need for now.”
“Oh, that man stole my heart with his personality and sexy ass body, hell if I weren’t taken I would chase the hell out of that man! God he is sexy and he is such a teddy bear! Maybe you should think of Richie as something more serious?”
How could she tell her friend that her feet weren’t planted as firmly on the ground as she would like to believe, her heart was in Jon’s hands and she could never feel anything more than friendship towards Richie?
“I could give it a try, but you must promise me you’ll come and visit?”
“Sure honey, but where the hell are you gonna stay?
“There is a cottage on the grounds, so I’m sorted. I just have to make sure I can take Shelby with me.”
Stacey looked into her friend’s eyes…
“You fell in love with him didn’t you honey? Well I fucking hope he looks after you properly otherwise I’ll have to go and kick Mr. Bon Jovi’s ass myself.”
They enjoyed their meal and too soon Stacey had to leave.
Cheyenne went home picked up the phone and called Mark, telling him he can come and collect a cheque. She didn’t mention the amount.
That evening she handed him the cheque. He accepted and left, She saw a blond woman sitting in the car as they pulled away.
Cheyenne sat down and wrote another cheque to S. McNeil. A huge smile on her face. Would she like to see her friend’s face when she gives her that!
