Chapter 280

The weeks flew by in a wink, Cheyenne was thrown into wedding arrangements and it kept her so busy that she fell into her bed at night.

Jon and the band were finishing up the new cd and he wasn’t home much. It didn’t give them time to work out their problems but Cheyenne was too thankful about the situation. She and Jon had too much on their hands at the moment and the bit of time they spent together she didn’t want to fight.

Cheyenne fell in love with Caroline. Her love for her son was apparent whenever he walked into the room. She was a soft spoken lady and they enjoyed their time together immensely. She couldn’t stop talking about her new grandchildren and dragged Cheyenne to the shops to buy all sorts of baby things. She treated Cheyenne to a well deserved body treatment and they spent the whole day at a spa, just being pampered.

Jon’s spirits was picking up and he enjoyed seeing his mother and his wife- to-be getting along so well. His mother was an outstanding woman and she could handle whatever life threw her way. Sometimes he felt like talking to his mom, telling her what was eating him alive, haunting his dreams. He had managed to keep his emotions in tack and even started to feel at ease whenever Richie and Cheyenne were in each other’s company, well so he thought anyway.

It was a rainy afternoon and Cheyenne had excused herself to retire to her room when Caroline saw her opportunity.

“Come sit here with your mother for a while. We never have time to talk to each other any more.”

Jon lounged back in his chair, he was so ready to sneak into Cheyenne’s bedroom and just lay with her, letting the tiredness ease from his bones. They haven’t spend too much time together and he really missed her, he needed time alone with her just to refresh his body and mind again.

“Son, I don’t want to be nosey but what is wrong? You are quiet and withdrawn. Anything you want to talk to me about?”

His hair stood on end. Just the thing he was so shit scared of, his mother’s instinct kicking in. Fucking great that was all he needed!

“I’m, just tired ma. You know how it goes with a new cd, the promoting and stuff.”

She shook her head, placing her hand on his.

“Jon, you and I know that, that isn’t the problem, its something deeper. It has something to do with your personal life, I know I’m right but I cant place my finger on it. I can see you love this girl , maybe even more than you ever loved Dorothea, if I may say so, its in your whole manner whenever you follow her with your eyes. But there is also an underlying hurt in your eyes. Do you want to talk about it?”

“Ma you are imagining things. There is nothing wrong! I’m going to be married and a dad in a few months, my cd is coming out and I have this feeling its going to be a huge success. I love the woman I’m with, everything is perfect! What more do I want out of life?”

She stared into his eyes silently for a few moments.

“I’m sorry I poked my nose into your business, darling. But you know I’m just a mother and I want to see you happy. I love Cheyenne, she is a wonderful girl. She is going to make you a wonderful wife and a super mother to the twins. Take this from an old woman. Love takes commitment, trust, understanding and forgiveness. Its like a recipe, without one ingredient the whole thing falls apart. I can see the passion between you two and that’s good, passion is good but it can’t replace the essential ingredients, it might look like its working, but it will eventually fall apart. I hope you two will make each other happy. I’ve only really come to know Cheyenne these last couple of weeks, but she is completely devoted to you, she will make you happy if you just let her. Don’t let the past into this marriage. Start a clean slate, this is a new life for both of you. All you need is the two of you, I just want you to remember that.”

Jon felt a lump in his throat. Why did his mother always manage to say the right things? Its as if she had read his mind. He stood up and kissed her soft cheek, hugging his mom close to him, feeling her strength seeping into his body.

“You are the best mother any man could ask for, you know that?” He felt tears stinging his eyes and his voice sounded low and a bit hoarse as emotion flooded through him.

“That’s all I ever wanted to be to you boys.” She hugged him back, feeling his slight quivering. Her heart ached for her son. She hoped what she said touched some of his concerns, concerns he didn’t want to discuss with her.
