Chapter 284

Weeks flew by and Caroline and Cheyenne were both tired but happy with the wedding arrangements.

Cheyenne insisted that the wedding take place on the grounds close to the river.

Her dress was almost done, but her pregnancy posed a problem. Her body was changing with an alarming speed. She had a beautiful round bump and the babies were kicking quite hard these days. The final touch would be done a few days before the wedding.

Her back was starting to give her problems but she grinned and beared it.

Jon was due to come back the next day and it was Caroline’s last night with Cheyenne. Cheyenne had grown to love her future mother in law. She was a great companion and a pillar of strength when it seemed everything was going wrong.

They spent the last night going over a few wedding things. Talking about the babies and just chatting in general. It was late when the two women crept into bed.

It was a teary goodbye when Caroline left the next morning. She hugged Cheyenne rounded figure close to her.

“You look after yourself now and you better look after my babies! Don’t let me hear them complain! I’ll see you within at the wedding and if you need anything, you know where to find me.”

Cheyenne decided to do some baby shopping while she waited for Jon to come back later that night.

She bought some essentials, nappies, blankets and baby toiletry. She had two huge bags in her hands on her way to the car, when her eyes caught a magazine on the magazine stand. Her hands lost all feeling as she let the bag hit the pavement.

She grabbed a magazine, almost tearing it in her haste to read the article. A nightmare was playing in front of her eyes.

The pictures Jon bought were splattered over 3 pages. The author of the article made snide remarks, showing her with Jon, then with Richie and a recent picture of her huge bump, speculating who the father might be, even a picture where she and Dot were eating and tears running down her cheeks. Then there were pics she hadn’t seen before, Richie…Richie and more Richie.

She paid for the magazine, grabbed her bags and walked towards her car. She sagged back into the seat, her heart pounding in her ears. Jon was going to kill someone.

They were just getting over this thing and now everything was ripped wide open for everyone to see.

How was Jon going to react to this? Just then her phone rang. Her stomach dropped into her shoes. She was too scared to answer but the incessant ringing drove her out of her mind.

“Cheyenne speaking.”

“Honey, tell me its not true.”

Cheyenne sighed.

“Caroline, how did you get the magazine, aren’t you still in the plane?”

“I bought the magazine when I saw the picture on the front page. Just tell me..”

“No Caroline. I have never slept with Richie in my life. I never will. Jon is my life. I will never betray him like that.”

“This is what’s been bothering Jon, isn’t it? Have you worked through it or are you just ignoring this?”

“We are trying to work through this but he doesn’t want to talk about it. I’ve tried.”

“Sweetie you cannot marry him, until you two have sorted this out. Talk to him, get this behind you.”

“I’ll try. I just hope this doesn’t set him off again. You haven’t seen him the day he showed me the pictures. He was beside himself. How is he going to take this?”

“Honey, Jon loves you. Make him listen. You know you are innocent you have to do this for the sake of your happiness, Jon’s happiness, the babies and the band’s future. This could rip the band apart and I’ve known Richie my whole life. He is a good boy and he is suffering as well. I know how deeply he loves Jon and this must be killing him. I know you are the only one to make Jon see the truth.”

Cheyenne started the car a while later, driving home with a heavy feeling in her heart. Somehow she just knew tonight wouldn’t be a good homecoming.
