Cheyenne got better as days went by. Richie and Violet clucked around her, making sure she was comfortable and had everything she needed. Richie was a great companion. He kept her amused and her spirits high at all the times.
Jon was relieved to hear her voice returning to normal and the coughing decreasing everytime he spoke to her. He couldn’t wait to feel her in his arms again and see her beautiful dark eyes, shining into his.
Richie and Stacey spoke everyday, the longing got unbearable.
A few days before Jon was due to come back Richie received a phone call from Heather, crying, informing him that Ava fell and broke her arm at school. It was broken quite badly and she had to receive an operation to repair the break.
Making sure Cheyenne would be ok, he jumped on a plane, rushing to see Ava.
She was a small bundle laying on the hospitalbed, a huge cast on her tiny arm, seeing her like that broke his heart. Her eyes fluttered open and a smile broke out on her little face as she saw him standing in the doorway.
“Daddy!”
“Hey, sweetheart! If you wanted to see me you could have called, you know. It wasn’t necessary to fake all this to get me here!”
He embraced her softly, taking care not to hurt her. He handed her the huge teddy bear and the get well soon balloon he bought at the cafeteria down stairs.
Heather was sitting next to the bed. She stood up and hugged Richie, holding on to him a few seconds longer than necessary.
He frowned slightly as he backed up from her. Her tear stained faced tugged at his heart. He was such a sucker when it came to crying woman.
“She’s ok. See?” He looked over at the little pale face on the bed.
“I just had a scare, that’s all.”
Ava fell asleep and they walked out to get some coffee.
They sat down ignoring the stares their presence provoked.
Heather toyed with the spoon in her coffee cup.
“We broke up.”
Richie took her hand in his.
“I’m sorry. What happened?”
“I found him with a girl in my bed. I came home early.”
“Does Ava know?”
“She knows he moved out, but I didn’t gave her the gory details, no.”
They finished their coffee and Richie stood up.
“Well I’m dead on my feet. I need to get myself a hotelroom and sleep a bit. I’ll be back later to see Ava.”
“You don’t need a hotel. I have plenty unused rooms. You can stay at my place.”
Her blue eyes branded into him making his heart flip unexpectedly.
“That’s nice of you. Thanx, Heather.”
