Cheyenne felt like her old self again. She couldn’t wait for Jon to come back. Hearing his voice only made her longing for him even more.
She was sitting on the porch, Shelby laying at her feet when her phone rang.
“Hey baby.”
“Hey yourself? Miss me?”
“Words cannot even describe how much!”
“When are you coming back, I miss you. My bed is empty without you.”
“Shit…don’t mention miss and bed together. I have a hard on just hearing you say those words.. I’m due back tomorrow honey. But I’ll be late, a small crises with the Bongiovi kids. Jakie to be exact.”
Her heart sank.” Oh, no! What happened? Is he ok?”
“Yeah, he is fine but his dog is not doing so well. It died this morning and you know Jake and his love for dogs. I just want to make a turn there and see if he’s ok.”
“Poor, poor boy! What are you guys going to do?”
“Maybe take him to the shelter again so he can choose another one. He loves animals and it would only be fair to give him a new companion.”
They spoke for a while and hung up.
She picked up her phone and idea forming in her mind.
“Dorothea speaking.”
“Hey Dorothea. Cheyenne here, how are you?”
“Hi! I’m good and you?”
“I’m doing great. I’m sorry to hear about Jake’s dog. Jon just told me, is Jake ok?”
“Well he is heartbroken, but he will get over it, hopefully.”
“Well I’m calling to discuss something with you. You know Shelby, well they hit it off immediately when the kids were here the first time. Shelby is a bit lonely and I know she loves Jake attention. How would you feel about a big dog in your house?”
“Are you sure you want to give her away? I know how much you love her.”
“I will still be able to see her and I know she would have a wonderful home with Jake.”
‘Well that would be great! Thank you Cheyenne! Jake is going to be a very happy boy. But I’m not going to tell him, I’ll leave it up to you.”
“I’ll bring her around tomorrow. Is that ok with you?’
Cheyenne ended the conversation. Leaned forward and stroked Shelby’s velvety ears.
“You are going to a new home, girl, Jake’s home. You are going to be so happy there!”
She stared up to Cheyenne with her chocolate brown eyes, her tail wagging.
