Chapter 123

It was a broken Stacey she took in her arms. Her slim body shook and her sobs almost broke Cheyenne’s heart.

The house was full of bouquets, a lovely smell hanging in the air. People came in and out the house, neighbours brought food, friends made coffee. Everyone tried to make things easier for Stacey.

The funeral arrangements took their toll on Stacey. Cheyenne helped with the decisions, Cheyenne took Stacey home and waited till she fell asleep, drove to the morgue to get all Wayne’s belongings. She didn’t want to put Stace through that hell as well.

The funeral would be hell enough.

Jon called her everyday, making her day a bit brighter.

The day of funeral began grey and gloomy. Rain clouds threatened to make the day even worse.

Cheyenne and Stacey arrived at the funeral parlour first. She wanted to say goodbye before all the people pitched up. Cheyenne stood at the door, not wanting to intrude and not sure if she wanted to see Wayne’s body. Stacey didn’t give her an option and gripped her hand so tightly that she didn’t have a choice but to go with her.

Wayne looked so peaceful. There was a cut above his eyes, but the rest of him looked so normal.

Stacey stared at him for what seemed like hours. Leaned forward and kissed him on the lips.

“Goodbye…baby…” Tears fell on his cheeks and Cheyenne felt her own tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Come honey, lets go.” Cheyenne held her dear friend against her body, feeling Stacey’s body shaking, afraid she might faint.

They sat down on the church bench, waiting for the service to start.

Cheyenne was secretly hoping to see Jon. She was reaching her limit , and just needed a pair of strong arms to hold her, she was tired of being the strong one. But she would stand by Stacey even if it killed her. She could break down later.

Cheyenne was amazed at how many people attended the funeral. The service was beautiful but heartbreaking. Losing a young man so unexpectedly was always hard.

They reached the cemetery . Stacey’s emotions got the best of her and she started shaking, her sobs became uncontrollable and Cheyenne felt herself starting to shiver.

She was holding on to Stace, concerned about her state.

The next moment she felt a hand in the small of her back. She turned around and looked into the

most gorgeous face she has ever seen. She wanted to turn around and threw herself into his arms.

He had his shades on, hoping to avoid any attention. Richie’s dark head caught her eyes and she felt herself feeling stronger, knowing that her two pillars were there for her. Richie saw Stacey’s state and stepped to her other side, taking her hand. She looked up at him and gave him a teary grin. He put his arm around her and pulled  her slight body into his. Richie lifted his head and nodded at Cheyenne. She moved away, feeling Jon’s warm hand in her back.

Thank God they are here…thank God
